Pine Forest, Kodaikanal Overview
Situated in the southwest of Kodaikanal, Pine Forest is one of the most famous tourist spots in the city. It showcases the mesmerizing nature around which has been preserved to date which is why it is also an important preserved heritage in the town. Pine Forests came into existence due to the efforts put in by Mr. Bryant as he was the one to state the pine plantations to grow the timber in the year 1906. The sight of pine trees present in abundance and welcoming you to their world is nothing but nature's wonder with the forests appearing grey with dried cones and leaves. The forests are surrounded by a vegetation of mushrooms popularly known as the magic mushrooms, which are believed to be hallucinogenic.
The Pine Forest is not a place with scenic views but is also perfect for long walks and unwinding. Spending some relaxing moments in the natural surroundings amongst the beautiful trees around is a charm and worth it. The Pine Forest has become one of the most famous sightseeing attractions due to the enjoyable atmosphere around. One can opt for horse riding, nature walks or taking photographs. An exciting camping experience can be looked forward to at the forests after you obtain permission from the local authorities about the same. Therefore, in case you wish to break away from your daily routine and relax for a while, this is the place to be.
Flora at Pine Forest
Pine trees, in addition to Shola and Eucalyptus trees, are found in abundance in many parts of Kodaikanal. However, only two sites have become popular as a tourist destination amongst the travellers namely Pine Forest- 1 and Pine Forest-2.
Pine Forest 1
Situated on the road near the Solar Observatory, the pine forest is crowded with tourists flocking here to enjoy the place. There are also numerous local vendors selling fresh carrots and fruits who can be spotted right at the entrance of the forest.
Pine Forest 2
Situated near the Moir Point, the Pine Forest 2 does not remain crowded like Pine Forest 1. Vendors are usually hard to spot in this forest. Also, some horse riding options are available here which is why this place appears much more attractive than Pine Forest 1.
